Immanuel as the Payment for Sin

Dec 25, 2016

| Scripture: Matthew 1:23, 1 Corinthians 15:45–50

I.  You needed Immanuel due to your sin.  (1 Cor. 15:45-50; Gen. 2:16-17; 3:6-8)

     A.  Man's sin separated him from God.  (Gen. 2:16-17; 3:6-8)

     B.  Man's sin cannot be atoned for through animal sacrifice.  (Heb. 10:4)

     C.  Only Christ's sacrifice can atone for sin.  (Heb. 9:11-12)

II.  Your need is met only at the expense of Immanuel.  (Matt. 1:23; John 1:14)

     A.  Jesus gave up the wealth of heaven and became poor while on earth.  (2 Cor. 8:9)

     B.  Jesus veiled His glory in human flesh.  (Phil. 2:5-7)

III.  Your need can only be met by Immanuel, God's anointed Deliverer.

     A.  If you know Christ you are delivered from sin.  (Rom. 6:6-7)

     B.  If you know Christ you are delivered from this present evil world.  (Gal. 1:4)

     C.  If you know Christ you are delivered from the overwhelming power of temptations.  (2 Pet. 2:9; Matt 6:13)

     D.  If you know Christ you are delivered from this body of death through Him.  (Rom. 7:24-8:2)

     E.  If you know Christ you are delivered from every evil work, for heaven is your eternal home.  (2 Tim. 4:18)
