The epistle of 1 John can hardly be considered tolerant, by today's definition of the word tolerance. He makes a clear distinction between the saved and the lost, between those who have true knowledge and those who claim a knowledge that is foreign to God's Word and the gospel. Those with true knowledge have eternal life. Those without it will know only eternal death.
I. All believers need to understand the truth better and better. (1 John 2:21)
II. All believers need to recognize the most vital issues of the faith. (1 John 2:22)
III. All believers confess the Son. (1 John 2:23)
