Series: True Knowledge; True Assurance | Category: 1, 2, 3 John | Scripture: 1 John 1:5–1:5 | Tags: Doctrine, Sermons, Deity, Gospel, John, Light, Jesus, Christ

I.  It is necessary to remember the person through whom the message of the apostles came.  (1 John 1:5a)

The true message of the church must recognize Jesus as its subject, Jesus as its source, and Jesus as its sovereign.

II.  It is necessary to proclaim the message that has been given to the apostles.  (1 John 1:5b)

III.  It is necessary to reveal the person of God if you are to actually proclaim the right message.  (1 John 1:5c)

     A.  All truly Christian proclamation and living rests in the fact that God is light.

          1.  God alone is light.

          2.  That God is light indicates that He is a revealer of Himself to His creatures.

          3.  That God is light indicates that He is a revealer of man to himself.

          4.  That God is light confirms the deity of the Lord Jesus.  (See esp. John 8:12)

          5.  That God is light reminds us of His holiness and righteousness.

          6.  That God is light means that God is life.

     B.  All truly Christian proclamation and living rests in the fact that in God there is no darkness.
